NEPSE hit by zero trading due to share holders' protest

Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) did notrecord any trading today due to an agitation by stock traders to protest thegovernment's decision to revise the capital gains tax threshold on the sale ofbonus and rights shares. 

NEPSE's Spokesperson Murahari Parajuliconfirmed the zero trading. 

The traders have reached the Stockoffice where they staged a demonstration in protest. The new provision hasslapped 7.5 percent capital gains tax on the sale of bonus and rights shares,an increment from 5.5 earlier. Likewise, under thisprovision, institutional investors are required to pay 10 percent capital gainstax. RSS
