Grant provided for reconstruction should be spent in transparent manner FM Khatiwada

Minister for Finance,DrYubraj Khatiwada, has said that the grant provided to earthquake victims forreconstruction of private houses should be spent in a transparent manner as thegrant was provided after taking loan from donors. 

Inauguratinga seminar organized by National reconstruction Authority here today, FinanceMinister Khatiwada said that the government has given first priority toreconstruction of private houses. 

Hesaid, " House owner themselves should take activeness to reconstruct theirhouses as the government has been providing grant after taking loan from donoragencies. It is the responsibility of house owners to construct theirhouses." 

TheFinance Minister added that the NRA was ready to resolve problems surfaced incourse of reconstruction. He said that the Nepal Rastra Bank and NRA would makecriteria to ease the process for concessional loan said to be given forreconstruction. 

Similarly,Chief Executive Officer of NRA, YuvrajBhusal, said that out of 102,000 housesshould be reconstructed in Kathmandu Valley, 10,000 have already beenreconstructed and process began to construct other 25,000 houses. 

Hesaid, "Still 15,000 quake victims are remaining to sign an agreement forthe reconstruction of houses. This programme is organized to solicit feedbackfrom people's representatives to resolve problems surfaced in thisregard." 

Presentinga progress detail made so far in the reconstruction sector, NRA SpokespersonKrishna Prasad Dawadi and Joint-Spokesperson ManoharGhimire said that a totalof 161,000 houses have so far been reconstructed across the nation. 

Mayorsof KageshworiManohara and Dakshinkali municipalities—Krishna Hari Thapa andMohan Basnet said that the real earthquake victims are still out of the list ofbeneficiaries. 

Secretaryat the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives, GopinathMainali, Chief of District Coordination Committee, Kathmandu, Shiva SundarBaidya, also expressed their views. RSS
